About the Whitemouth River Recreation Commission
Purpose of the Commission:
To use the delivery of public recreation services to further the growth and development of the communities and individuals.
In April of 2011, the R.M. of Reynolds, R.M. of Whitemouth and the Sunrise School Division formed a working committee to investigate the viability of establishing a recreation commission. The working committee met monthly throughout the year to develop a proposal for consideration.
The Recreation Working Committee held a special meeting with the R.M. Of Reynolds and R.M. of Whitemouth Council on September 19, 2011. An overview of the Role of Recreation Commission, role of Recreation Director and sample budgets were shared at the special meeting.
The R.M. of Reynolds and the R.M. of Whitemouth officially established the Recreation Commission in March 2012! The Inaugural Commission meeting was held March 27, 2012
As of 2015, the Whitemouth River Recreation Commission no longer includes the R.M of Reynolds
Programming: To encourage the development of public recreation programs which will include physical recreation, social recreation, artistic and group recreation, intellectual recreation and audience entertainment based on identified need.
Leadership Development: To promote a high standard of recreation leadership in order to maintain a high quality of programs and services.
Volunteer Development: To encourage, promote and recognize volunteerism as an integral part of the community.
Resource and Communication: To facilitate the exchange of information between community groups and the government, funding bodies, regional and provincial organizations.
Public Education and Awareness: To promote the benefits of recreation and the important contribution that it makes to be leading a healthy lifestyle.
Facility: To provide access to resources, promotion and coordination. To also provide access to resources that would encourage maximum use of existing facilities. To promote and educate facility organizations regarding granting and funding opportunities to assist in meeting capital and programming needs.
